Mikkeller

April, 2012.packaging design for Danish brewery Mikkeller. During 2012 we did a collaboration with brew master Mikkel Borg Bjergsø where we brewed a series of four experimental beers — one for each season: a Pale Spring Ale, a Summer Pilsner, an Autumn Porter and a Wild Winter Ale. The labels were printed with a heat sensitive ink which makes the motif change when exposed to different temperatures. Each batch limited to 3,500 bottles.

The label is printed with heat sensitive ink. When the beer is cold a symbol representing the previous season is shown, but when the bottle empties or when a warm hand grips the bottle the heat sensitive color fades away leaving a symbol representing the current season. To the left is a snowflake turning into a sun when the bottle gets warm.
